Whether or not you’re considering enhancing your appearance, feeling comfortable in your own skin can be difficult. Everyone has those moments where they don’t feel as assertive or as powerful as they would like to, and altering something as simple as your posture can be a game-changer.
There are a million different reasons why posture is important. Back pain, rounded shoulders, and even difficult breathing are potential side effects of not sitting or standing up straight. Correcting your posture can make you feel taller, stronger, and more confident (take it from a few of us who were once slouchers). As important as it is to maintain a straight back and relaxed shoulders, the power stance takes posture to a different level and gives you a surefire boost of self-esteem.
Being happy with the person looking back from the other side of the mirror is one of the most fulfilling feelings there is, and it’s not just about looking good on the outside. Standing with your shoulders back, chin parallel to the floor, and neck relaxed is the beginning, but staring back at yourself is a way to quickly of what you are capable of and why you’ve gotten to where you are. For those who are skeptical about the effectiveness of a power stance: just try it.
One of our favorite power stances is simple: legs apart, hands on your hips, face forward. Face yourself, and don’t be afraid to give yourself a little pep talk. Feel free to throw a fist up in the air, point at yourself, cock your hip to one side, whatever is most natural and makes you feel like a boss. Finding your power stance gives you a fast and easy way to boost your self-esteem anytime, anywhere (anywhere there’s a mirror, that is).
